This is an actual correspondence gone awfully right. It was lovely to witness the stiff and formal nature of the correspondence give way to warmth and affection as the correspondents develop a friendship across the miles. The author, Helena writes that the antiquarian books are costly and she cannot afford them but if they have her requested books within her budget she’d like to buy them.

Written entirely in letter form, this is a work that while short, packs a punch. The book is only about pages long –but a charming read one I’m glad I read. London is a city I know very well indeed, and it was amazing to me to read about the ways in which it has changed in just a few decades. Though never meeting in person, they shared a comm I received this book in the mail a surprise gift — so I read it ‘on the spot’.
